For this project I designed a Network Package for the horror centric streaming service Shudder. The network package consists of a Network ID and Lower Third based on the existing brand identity of the service. My process consisted of design research, art direction, storyboarding, look and feels, animatics, and the final animations.
Shudder lacks an engaging identity for it's online programming, making it difficult to standout from competitors.
To develop a network package that differentiates the service from others and encourages people to tune-in to their service offerings
With this project built off the existing brand identity for the service, I first started my process by researching their existing visual approach. Continuing off of the information discovered I wanted to better define the audience the project would be trying to reach. This resulted in me creating a write-up that defines the definitive concept of the project while also providing a general overview of the choices to be made in the animation.
Storyboards were developed based around the overview pitched in the write-up with some scene changes based off feedback. To play a bit more into the idea of an audience tuning into the service during the Station ID, a hand interacts with the television to turn the service on. Rather than a television acting as the Lower Third for the service, a slasher knife will be featured instead to play into the horror theming.
I developed two animatics to give a clear indication of pace and sequence for both animations, as well as to test how audio fits into the animation.
Taking more feedback from the storyboards and animatics, I developed look and feels to get a better idea of my design aesthetic. This helped in showcasing the importance of texture and the color red in the animation.
I had a lot of fun building on the existing identity of Shudder in both new and old ways. Playing around with common horror tropes with a modern, creative touch was quite enjoyable and I learned a lot in how to approach art direction.
